Creative arts therapies, or sometimes referred as expressive arts therapies, consists of four art medias. These four art medias are visual, dance, music and theatre/drama. Creative art therapists are masters level mental health professionals that work in a variety of mental healthcare settings throughout the world. In the states we each have our own boards and board exams that ensures the trained creative art therapist is certified and highly qualified in their fields. Many of us have additional credentials such as licensed social workers, counselors, and clinical psychologists. It is highly advised that regular licensed mental health professional to not engage in the arts in their practice if they are not master level and board certified creative art therapists. Utilizing the arts in mental health provides yet another vehicle towards communicating what the client is unable to do in talk therapy alone.
